Living the Faith
My Dear Our Lady of Lourdes Family,
I hope this beautiful month of Mary find’s your spirit rejoicing with hers! With Mary as our patroness our church bells ring the Angelus each day at noon and six o’clock. The Angelus recalls God’s invitation to Mary (The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary), her response (Be it done unto me according to Thy word), and the new life that follows (And the Word was made flesh). In our own time God the Father asks us to join Mary in bringing Christ to the world.
As a parish family “Living the Faith” together, we are asked four times each year to say “yes” to the Lord:
Our first “yes” is to Jesus through Mary. Using St. Louis de Montfort’s True Devotion to Mary, we prepare ourselves to make and renew our Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, December 8th.
Our next “yes” is to the Holy Hour. Each of us is asked to commit to one hour of prayer each week for the special intentions of our parish family. While we can sign up for our Holy Hour at any time during the year, we renew our commitment each year on the Solemnity of Corpus Christi.
Next, we say “yes” to serving in a ministry of the parish. This is a deepening of our rootedness and a strengthening of our outreach to others. Our Ministry Fair, held each year on the Solemnity of Pentecost, is a great time to revisit all that we are doing as a parish family and to find the ministry to which God is calling us.
Finally, we say “yes” to financial support of the life and mission of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. We are asked to commit 5% of our annual income to our parish and each September we will make our annual pledges together.
As we are approaching our September commitment weekend, I ask that you spend some time in prayer and discernment to prepare your “yes”. For one entire year let us all together give 5% of our income to the mission of Jesus here at Our Lady of Lourdes. I ask that we step out in trust and make this year our gift to God. Look to Mary, our patroness and guide, and respond with her generosity of heart so that His Word may be made flesh and dwell among us here in West Kendall. You matter.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Msgr. Kenneth K. Schwanger
